  • Φaretra Crystalina

    Contemporary Lyrical Folk Ensemble

Φaretra Crystalina is a vibrant ensemble that blends lyrical voices, close harmonies, inventive covers, and original compositions into a rich, eclectic repertoire spanning Latin America, Sweden, Japan, the Mediterranean, and the Celtic highlands—while Greek traditional music remains at its core. From these roots, innovative new works naturally emerge.

Merging the lyricism of classical music with the raw energy of folk traditions, Φaretra Crystalina creates a bold, adventurous sound. Classical and traditional instruments converge, vocal artistry shines, and sonic portraits of the countryside come alive. Each performance fuses centuries of musical heritage into a fresh, contemporary experience.

Inspired by artists who reimagine the traditions of their homelands, the ensemble freely experiments with influences, crafting unique, emotionally resonant sonic landscapes. Central to their sound are the voices—powerful, free, and expressive—supported by guitars, wind instruments, bayan, percussion, and double bass, all combining to create timeless musical journeys.

  • Founded in 2016 by Chrysostomos Kalogridakis and Thalia Moutopoulou, Φaretra Crystalina has performed and recorded extensively, collaborating with major institutions and festivals including the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) and ALEA III of Boston University. Its members also work with the Greek National Opera, the Athens Municipality Orchestra, and the Megaron Concert Hall. With musicians from diverse backgrounds, Φaretra Crystalina unites a millennium of musical tradition into a single, innovative voice, bridging past and present with originality and passion.
